Foreign Language Education

Kennesaw State is proud to offer a  with a concentration that leads to Teacher Certification in Foreign Languages (Concentration II). Our program allows you to experience teaching hands on in the field where you will put theory to practice and our program will prepare you to navigate the complex educational profession by focusing on real-world applications of theory, helping you prepare for certification, and supporting you with experienced advisors throughout the process. In addition, we welcome Asian Studies students interested in learning about second language education, methodologies, and language acquisition via the TEFL concentration.

Why Teach?

Teaching foreign language is not just a career in teaching; it is a career where you will throw open the doors for students to see the many, rich ways of living across the world. You are bringing your students into a global community of learners and the world is your classroom. Initial certification for foreign languages will prepare you to teach from pre-school to high school. Foreign language teachers are an area of critical need throughout the state and the nation. Our Program

  • Students must meet all the Teacher Education admission requirements of the Bagwell College of Education as well as additional Department of Foreign Languages requirements for admission to the FLED program. Please note that admission to Teacher Education is separate from admission to 成人直播.
  • An evaluation from the instructors of your two most recent Chinese, French, German, or Spanish courses, assessing your skills in reading, writing, listening, and speaking, as well as your potential for success in the program. If you've not had any courses at the 3000-level, one evaluation from CHIN 2002, FREN 2002, GRMN 2002, or SPAN 2002 will suffice.
  • To maintain academic standing in the FLED program, all students, once admitted, must maintain a GPA of 2.75 or higher.

The Foreign Language Teacher Education (FLED) program allows degree candidates to complement their studies in the primary language with the coursework required for teacher certification. The FLED program is accredited by ACTFL / NCATE and the FLED curriculum satisfies requirements of the . Students successfully completing the FLED program are recommended for the State of Georgia Induction Certificate in P-12 Chinese, French, German, or Spanish. This FLED program is Nationally Recognized by the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL). It is one of only two nationally recognized foreign language teacher certification programs in the state of Georgia.
