Friendship fuels research success for ³ÉÈËÖ±²¥ science students

Cecilia Le and Lily Schwartz have bonded over boba tea and chemistry research, but not necessarily in that order. The ³ÉÈËÖ±²¥ juniors met in the lab of Associate Professor of Biochemistry Mohammad Halim, and a partnership flourished – as did a friendship. They presented research into the effectiveness of certain peptides in mitigating COVID-19 twice at the Symposium of Student Scholars, and have continued to make their way as undergraduate researchers.

Non-traditional student, Navy veteran finds research home at Kennesaw State

Rusty Hooper traded nuclear submarines for the study of physical chemistry at ³ÉÈËÖ±²¥. An undergraduate researcher in the laboratory of Assistant Professor of Chemistry Madalynn Marshall, Hooper enrolled at Kennesaw State for its proximity to his home in Dallas, Ga., but quickly found his way to the College of Science and Mathematics and its lab complex.

Carl Saint-Louis named 2026 Outstanding Undergraduate Research Mentor

Each year ³ÉÈËÖ±²¥â€™s Office of Undergraduate Research awards one faculty member the Outstanding Undergraduate Research Mentor Award. To be chosen, a mentor must have shown not only passion for research but also extraordinary dedication to their students. This year’s outstanding undergraduate research mentor award winner is Carl Saint-Louis, an assistant professor of organic chemistry in the College of Science and Mathematics.

Kennesaw State to launch Ph.D. in Biomedical Sciences in Fall 2027

Building on its leadership in scientific research and education, ³ÉÈËÖ±²¥ on Wednesday received approval from the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia to launch a new Ph.D. in Biomedical Sciences. The program will begin in Fall 2027 on the Kennesaw Campus. Housed in the College of Science and Mathematics, the degree will help meet the increasing demand in Georgia and the nation for research scientists in biology, chemistry, biochemistry, and ecology.

Kennesaw State's SueAnn Hollowell places second in inaugural USG Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition

In a showcase of student innovators from across the state, ³ÉÈËÖ±²¥ biology major SueAnn Hollowell earned second place in the inaugural University System of Georgia (USG) Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition held this week. Hosted this year on Kennesaw State’s Marietta Campus, the traveling systemwide competition is designed to spotlight creativity, strategic thinking, and entrepreneurial talent from the USG’s 25 member institutions.
