Today he is living that dream. The ֱ graduate recently starred in “Young & Cursed,” an independent horror film that premiered this fall on Amazon Prime and Apple TV, marking a major milestone in his acting career.
Though he always wanted to be a performer, Malone’s journey to the big screen was not without its challenges. Growing up with a stutter, he struggled with his confidence. With encouragement from family members and teachers who saw his talent, he began singing in kindergarten and took the stage in his first school play in the third grade. He hasn’t looked back since.
“I chose to not let fear stop me from doing things that were meaningful,” he said. “I love acting. I love being able to express myself. When I am on stage of in front of the camera, my stutter somehow goes away as I take myself out of the equation.”
Born in Michigan but raised in Cobb County, Malone attended Marietta High School before joining the Norman J. Radow College of Humanities and Social Sciences to major in public relations, a specialty he saw as a bridge between storytelling and his dream of working in film.

One of those professors was Tom Vizcarrondo, associate professor of communication at the Radow College, who Malone worked with at Peak Communications, a class that operates as a fully functional student-run public relations agency that provides students with the opportunity to gain real-world experience in a classroom setting.
“It's great to hear about CJ's most recent successes,” Vizcarrondo said. “ He was the kind of student that always managed to bring a sense of positivity and optimism to everything he did. Along with that though, he's always shown a great determination in whatever he set out to do. I'm sure his success with his first major film is just the beginning of representing ֱ and all Owls very well!”
After graduating from ֱ in 2023, Malone started volunteering for student films at local colleges to build a demo reel and gain experience. “That work paid off when someone noticed him on Backstage, an audition website and connected him with a California-based filmmaker casting for “Young & Cursed.”
After a successful audition, Malone flew to Flagstaff, Arizona, for a month of filming for his first major production. In the film, a group of five young people in a mysterious remote area fall under the controlling spell of a demonic force. Malone played the lead character Donny, a hardened but spiritually driven character.
“I wasn’t ready for 12-hour days, for how much patience and repetition it takes to get everything right,” he said. “But it was incredible to see how much teamwork goes into bringing a story to life.”
Since the movie, Malone has trained at Nick Conti’s Professional Actors Studio in Atlanta and is now working with an agent to pursue new roles that align with his faith and personal mission to inspire others.

“My goal isn’t fame. It’s to give people hope through the stories I tell,” he said. “My mission is to be a positive influence. Not just to help people escape reality but to help them deal with it.”
Malone hosted a Halloween night screening of his debut film at The Springs Cinema and Taphouse, with the aim of inspiring current ֱ students to pursue their own creative dreams.
“If they learn nothing else from seeing this film, I hope they realize their dreams are possible,” he said. “If I can do it, so can they.”
